Senior Teaching Assistant

The T.E.A.M.@Severn work with learners who are unable to access school due to health and exceptional circumstances. The team work across the City in community settings and council buildings. The team works in close partnership with learners, families, schools, EOTAS providers, other professionals within the LA, the Health Service and other statutory and voluntary agencies in Cardiff. The purpose of the service is to provide a tailored engaging education for our children and young people short term, as they transition into full time education, training or employment.

Working under the direction of the Lead Learning Engagement Officer, the Skills and Support Worker will play a key role in supporting pupils to access learning and improve their engagement, achievement, and attendance.

This role involves supporting learners in a range of environments, including both at our centre and community settings.

Our learners are not currently in full-time education. They join us and transition to new destinations throughout the year. Many learners present with barriers to learning, and our skills and support workers will be instrumental in supporting them to overcome these challenges.

You will design and deliver a range of activities to support re-engagement in education, as well as the development of life and social skills. The role also involves liaising with parents, teachers, and external agencies to support improvements in attendance, behaviour, and overall achievement.

• Select and prepare resources tailored to learners’ interests, language, and cultural backgrounds
• Encourage participation, cooperation, and positive interaction among learners
• Support learners to successfully re-engage with education and learning environments

This role is part-time at 32.5 hours per week, 39 weeks per year. The advertised salary is based on a full-time role (37 hours per week, 52 weeks per year). The actual salary will be lower than the advertised salary because of the part‑time hours and weeks worked.
