Welsh-Medium Language Skills Tutor Vice-Chancellor's Office Academi Gymraeg

We are seeking to appoint a Welsh-medium Skills Tutor to join the Academi Gymraeg team. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing, supporting and delivering Welsh language skills provision for students, including activities that enhance students’ skills development and contribute to the delivery of the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol’s Welsh-Language Skills Certificate.

You will be expected to develop and deliver extracurricular provision while supporting both curricular and co-curricular skills provision, in response to the needs of our Welsh-speaking students. These activities will support students who continue to study through the medium of Welsh during their courses, along with students who transition to English-medium studies depending on their degree programme.

The work has two key elements:

  • i. The postholder will support the Academi Gymraeg and University teams to develop and deliver a Welsh-medium skills programme to support Welsh-speaking students. You will provide advice, guidance and training to students as they study and develop their language skills through the medium of Welsh, and support students transitioning to English-medium studies. There will be an opportunity to review the current support available to undergraduate and postgraduate students to design and offer targeted Welsh-medium opportunities tailored to student needs and to support their student journey.
  • ii. In addition, this role will develop, deliver and evaluate the Welsh Language Skills Certificate programme at the University, which is funded by the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol. As part of this work, you will support and train students to develop their language skills to complete the Certificate, while undertaking administrative duties within the area of work as required.

You will be an excellent communicator with advanced administrative skills, capable of overseeing administrative tasks associated with the role, including monitoring and reporting on attendance and engagement, responding creatively to student engagement trends, and working collaboratively across the University to provide skills support and guidance that strengthens Welsh-medium provision at both institutional and programme level.

You will have an understanding of the current challenges facing taught students. You will be creative and solution-focused, working with colleagues to create and develop accessible Welsh-medium learning sessions and materials using relevant learning platforms (e.g. Blackboard and Xerte).

The postholder will deliver a range of objectives to enhance best practice, engage with internal and external stakeholders, and support Welsh-speaking students in their learning. This work forms a core part of the University's strategic priorities to support and expand Welsh-medium provision and strengthen the experience of both students and staff.

For informal enquiries about the role, please contact:
Angharad Naylor, Dean of Welsh,

The role is full-time, 35 hours per week over 5 days, and is available immediately. The position is fixed-term for a period of 3 years.

Salary: £33,951 - £36,636 per annum (Grade
