Principal duties and responsibilities

Architecture at Cardiff Met is characterised by a culture of creative inquiry, design excellence and interdisciplinary collaboration. The programme encourages students to develop an individual architectural identity through studio-based learning that balances conceptual thinking, technical knowledge, critical enquiry and professional practice. As our Lecturer in Architecture – Professional Studies Adviser, you will inspire students to respond creatively to contemporary architectural challenges, engaging critically with the social, cultural, environmental and technological dimensions of the built environment.

As an architect actively engaged in professional practice, you will bring current industry knowledge, emerging design approaches and professional insight into the studio environment. You’ll contribute to the development of live projects, practice-led teaching, external partnerships and opportunities for students to engage with practitioners, clients and communities where appropriate. The role will support the programme's commitment to preparing graduates who are creative, reflective and equipped for contemporary architectural practice.

Enthusiastic about student-centred pedagogy, you will contribute to education delivery, including programme management as required, across the range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. You will also make a significant contribution to employability, and professional engagement with relevant internal and external organisations, at a regional, national and international level.

Additionally, you’ll contribute to the research profile of the department and to meet the qualitative and quantitative requirements for submission to the next Research Excellence Framework.
