Cardiff and Vale College is looking to appoint three Automotive Assessors to join our successful Work-Based Learning team, comprising two full-time positions and one 0.8 FTE position.

This is an exciting opportunity for experienced automotive professionals to use their industry expertise to support and develop the next generation of skilled technicians. Working closely with apprentices and employers across the region, you will help learners achieve industry-recognised qualifications while developing the skills, knowledge and behaviours required for successful careers within the automotive sector.

The successful candidates will manage a caseload of approximately 45 apprentices, supporting them throughout their learning journey through workplace assessment, progress reviews, coaching and ongoing development. Whether your background is in Light Vehicle, Heavy Vehicle, or both disciplines, you will play an important role in supporting learner achievement and workforce development within the automotive industry.

What You'll Do

You will carry out workplace assessments, progress reviews and learner support activities, ensuring apprentices remain on track to achieve their qualifications and reach their full potential. You will monitor learner progress, maintain accurate records and provide timely feedback to support continuous improvement and successful outcomes.

Working closely with employers, you will build strong partnerships that support both learner development and business needs. You will ensure assessment practices meet awarding organisation requirements, quality standards and contractual obligations while actively promoting high levels of learner engagement, progression and achievement.

You will also contribute to the development of learners' literacy, numeracy and digital skills, proactively manage your caseload and support the continued growth and success of the College's Work-Based Learning provision.

About You

You will be an experienced automotive professional with substantial industry knowledge and a genuine passion for developing future talent within the sector. Experience in Light Vehicle and/or Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair is highly desirable.

You will hold relevant automotive industry qualifications together with a recognised assessor qualification such as TAQA Level 3, A1, D32/D33 or an equivalent assessor award. Candidates who can demonstrate current occupational competence and a commitment to high-quality assessment practice will be particularly welcomed.

You will have excellent communication and organisational skills, experience of working towards targets and the ability to build positive working relationships with employers, apprentices and colleagues. You will be confident using digital systems, managing learner records and supporting apprentices to achieve successful outcomes.

A flexible and proactive approach is essential, together with a full driving licence, access to your own vehicle and appropriate business insurance, as travel to employer premises forms a key part of the role. Welsh language skills would be advantageous.

Why Join Us

At Cardiff and Vale College, our vision is to be Inspirational, Inclusive and Influential. We are committed to transforming lives by unlocking potential and developing skills, providing sector-leading education and training across the region.

Joining CAVC means becoming part of a supportive and ambitious organisation where learner success, innovation and collaboration are at the heart of everything we do. You will have the opportunity to make a real difference to apprentices, employers and the wider automotive industry while benefiting from a culture that values professional development and continuous improvement.
