Peer Assisted Study Sessions (PASS) Leader

Join us in helping new students build confidence, develop effective study habits and feel part of their learning community.

We're looking for enthusiastic students to become Peer Assisted Study Sessions (PASS) Leaders. As a PASS Leader, you'll support students who are studying on the foundation programme that you previously completed, helping them to learn collaboratively, strengthen their understanding of course content and develop the skills they need to succeed.

This is a fantastic opportunity to develop your own leadership, communication and facilitation skills whilst making a positive difference to the student experience.

As a PASS Leader, you'll:

  • Lead weekly, interactive study sessions for up to 15 students enrolled in the foundation course that you have already passed.
  • Help students develop effective study skills, improve their understanding of course content and build confidence ahead of assessments.
  • Create a welcoming, supportive environment where students feel comfortable sharing ideas and learning together.
  • Encourage discussion, participation and collaborative problem-solving, acting as a guide rather than a teacher. Most sessions will be led by two student PASS leaders at a time.
  • Promote PASS sessions and encourage regular engagement across your student community.
  • Signpost students to appropriate University support services when needed.

What you'll bring

We're looking for students who:

  • Communicate confidently and can explain ideas in a clear and accessible way.
  • Enjoy supporting others and helping fellow students succeed.
  • Can encourage participation and facilitate productive group discussions.
  • Have good organisation and time management skills.
  • Are willing to learn, reflect on feedback and develop their leadership and facilitation skills.
  • Are committed to creating an inclusive and positive experience for all students.

You must be a current Cardiff Met student studying on one of the following programmes:

  • Level 5 (second year degree) BSc (Hons) Psychology (this will form all or part of your 40 placement hours). You will need to have entered your degree course via Foundation Leading to Social Sciences.
  • Level 5 (second year degree) Youth & Community Work - BA (Hons). You will need to have entered your degree via Foundation Certificate in Youth & Community Work.
  • Level 4 (first year degree) on sport degree programmes within Cardiff School of Sport & Health Sciences. You will need to have entered your degree via Foundation Leading to Sport.

Why become a Peer Assisted Study Sessions (PASS) Leader?

Being a PASS Leader is a great opportunity to develop your communication, leadership and teamwork skills while deepening your own understanding of your course and enhancing your study skills. You'll gain valuable paid experience that fits around your studies, support fellow students to succeed, and play an important role in creating a positive and supportive learning community. Full training and ongoing support will be provided.
