Not every child measures success in grades.

Sometimes success is communicating a choice for the very first time.

Sometimes it's joining a group activity, developing trust in an adult, exploring a new sensory experience, or taking a step towards greater independence.

Every achievement matters. Every milestone is celebrated. Every child is encouraged to shine through meaningful learning experiences that help them become confident communicators and active members of their community.

We are recruiting for a Learning Support Assistant to join a highly regarded specialist provision supporting pupils aged 3-11 years with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD).

This opportunity would suit someone who understands the unique rewards of specialist education and is passionate about helping children overcome barriers, build confidence and achieve incredible personal milestones.

About the Learning Environment

You’ll work in a nurturing, specialist setting where learning is tailored to the individual needs of every child. The provision is driven by a vision of encouraging every child to shine through real-life, rich learning experiences that develop communication, independence and confidence.

This is far more than a classroom-based role.

Learning takes place through:

  • Communication-focused activities
  • Sensory exploration and engagement
  • Outdoor and community learning
  • Life skills development
  • Play-based experiences
  • Practical and hands-on learning opportunities
  • Personalised interventions designed around individual needs

The children you’ll support may have significant communication difficulties, sensory needs and complex learning profiles, meaning every day brings opportunities to make a genuine difference.

What Does a Typical Day Look Like?

No two days are ever the same.

You may begin the morning supporting pupils through structured sensory-based routines, helping them settle into the day and prepare for learning.

Throughout the day you could be:

  • Supporting one-to-one or small-group learning activities.
  • Encouraging communication using visual supports, symbols or assistive technology.
  • Helping pupils develop independence and life skills.
  • Facilitating sensory activities designed around individual targets.
  • Supporting outdoor learning and community visits.
  • Assisting children to build friendships and social interaction skills.
  • Working closely with teachers, therapists and families to achieve meaningful outcomes.

The most rewarding part?

The first request.
The first choice.
The first successful interaction.
The first step towards independence.

We’d Love to Hear From Candidates with Experience In:

  • Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD)

  • Patient, nurturing and child-centre
