Carmarthenshire County Council is seeking an outstanding, inspirational and dedicated practitioner to join the Bilingual Carmarthenshire team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in supporting learners on their Welsh language journey. The successful candidate will help ensure effective language acquisition by enabling a smooth transition from primary into Welsh‑medium secondary education, while delivering high-quality immersion and/or language support (Gloywi Iaith) provision for targeted groups of learners within secondary schools.
Working closely with primary and secondary schools across Carmarthenshire, the postholder will identify pupils who would benefit from additional language support and provide tailored assistance as they progress into secondary education. Through this work, the successful candidate will help learners build confidence, strengthen their Welsh language skills and achieve successful outcomes within Welsh‑medium education.
The role involves teaching in designated secondary schools across the county, as well as coordinating immersion and language support provision delivered by staff in other secondary schools to ensure a consistent and effective learner experience.
We are looking for a passionate and innovative practitioner with a proven track record of teaching Welsh effectively at Key Stage 2 and/or Key Stage 3. The successful candidate will be a creative and inspiring teacher who can motivate learners, adapt teaching approaches to meet individual needs, and secure strong progress for all pupils. The postholder will also:
- Work closely with school leaders, teachers and teaching assistants
- Work in partnership with colleagues in immersion centres
- Ensure excellent and equitable secondary immersion and language improvement provision for all learners
A strong understanding of language‑acquisition methodology, Additional Learning Needs (ALN), neurodiversity and trauma‑informed approaches is essential for this role. We expect high standards of teaching, a strong commitment to learner well‑being, and the ability to work effectively as part of an ambitious and professional team.
