At Travers Smith, we believe in nurturing future talent through a challenging and rewarding journey. Our Level 7 Solicitor Apprenticeship is a six-year programme designed to launch outstanding legal careers - offering real responsibility, tailored support, and unrivalled learning every step of the way. You will be a valued member of our collaborative and inclusive environment, benefiting from one-to-one mentorship, meaningful guidance, and continuous professional growth.
In years 1 - 4, you will rotate every 12 months into a new department. For four days a week, you will have on-the-job training and then be granted protected study time one day a week to undertake your LLB with BPP university.
Then, in years 5 - 6, you will sit in rotated departments every 6 months. At this time, you will be studying towards your SQE so will have protected time off from work.
On completion of the six years, you’ll qualify as a solicitor in England and Wales and be eligible to apply for a newly qualified Associate role here at Travers Smith, all while earning a salary and building a future to be proud of.
We will recommence our Solicitor Apprenticeship hiring in September 2027, for a September 2028 start.

Study and SupportYou'll spend one day a week studying for your degree-level apprenticeship with BPP Law School, leading to the award of an LLB (Hons) in law as well as the post-graduate level SQE (Solicitors' Qualifying Examination). The course covers the core legal topics which are essential for legal practice, and consists of online live teaching, tutor-led performance coaching, guided self-study, and professional workshops, with regular exam-style assessments and portfolio tasks.
You do not need any prior legal learning or qualification. All course fees are covered by Travers Smith.
Throughout your apprenticeship, you will have several sources of academic and pastoral support, working together to help you succeed:
- BPP provides a specialised skills coach who will meet with you regularly to discuss progress with your studies and offer guidance on getting the best out of the teaching and other resources on offer from BPP.
- In the workplace, you will have a dedicated supervisor to provide day-to-day guidance on the work allocated to you and help you to develop your legal and commercial knowledge and skills. Our apprentice supervisors will also meet with you and your BPP skills coach to help you navigate the interface between your studies and your workplace learning. We also operate a buddy system to provide you with more junior level advice and support.
- We will also provide dedicated HR support for apprentices, responsible for all aspects of your time with the firm, including liaising with our Learning & Development team to provide you with ongoing workplace training, as well as helping you with any wellbeing issues.
At Travers Smith, we’re proud to offer training that sets the standard in the City - designed to develop not just technical expertise but well-rounded, confident lawyers with a global outlook.
During your apprenticeship, you’ll benefit from interactive, partner-led sessions at the start of every seat, ongoing seminars sharing real insights from recent matters, and a truly collaborative team environment. Our unique room-sharing model means you'll work closely with both partners and associates, learning directly from their experience and picking up invaluable soft skills that can’t be taught in a classroom.
