Electrical Project Manager (Commercial Build)
Contract:
Freelance (on-going)
Rate: £300 per day (CIS or Ltd company)
Start: ASAP
A leading MEP contractor is seeking an Electrical Project Manager to lead the electrical package on a major commercial new‑build in Cardiff. The role suits a delivery‑focused manager with experience on complex commercial projects such as hospitals, schools, data centres, large public‑sector buildings or multi‑storey offices. Candidates whose background is purely residential, manufacturing or light industrial are unlikely to be considered.
Key responsibilities
* Own the electrical scope from pre‑construction planning through installation, commissioning and handover
* Lead site teams and specialist subcontractors, setting standards for safety, quality and productivity
* Develop and manage RAMS; ensure compliance with all health and safety procedures and statutory requirements
* Review drawings/specs, coordinate RFIs and technical submittals, and resolve design queries with consultants
* Manage programme and short‑term sequencing; report progress, risks and mitigations to stakeholders
* Oversee procurement of materials/plant; support change control, cost tracking and forecasting
* Drive QA/ITP compliance, testing and inspection, systems integration and close‑out documentation
* Maintain clear client‑facing communication and collaborative interfaces with the wider MEP team
Requirements
* Proven track record delivering electrical packages on large commercial new‑builds (e.g., hospital/school/data centre/office)
* SMSTS
* First Aid at Work (3‑day)
* Black CSCS/ECS JIB senior level
* Strong leadership of subcontractors and supervisors, with confident client reporting
Working pattern and package
* Site‑based role, typically 40 hours per week
* £300/day via CIS or Ltd company; prompt start and likely ongoing work
