Kick-start your engineering career in Smart Buildings with a structured 7-year BMS apprenticeship across Wales and the South West.

If you have ever looked at building automation or a “smart building” and thought, how does all this actually work, this is your route in.

With National Apprenticeship Week having just been, this employee-owned building controls specialist is investing in the next generation and offering a structured, long-term entry into the BMS and Smart Buildings industry.

You will not be making tea and carrying ladders for seven years. You will be learning a trade that is future-proof, technical, and genuinely in demand:
Building Management Systems (BMS).

This is a structured 7-year apprenticeship with BCIA (Building Controls Industry Association) training and formal BMS qualifications, designed to take you from beginner to capable engineer with a real career ahead of you.

You will support experienced engineers, working on BMS systems that control heating, ventilation, air conditioning and other building services. You will travel to sites across Wales and the South West, with a mix of remote and on-site work. Alongside the job you will study to achieve recognised qualifications and build real engineering capability.

You will see your work make a difference quickly. When a building runs better because you helped get the controls right, it is obvious, and your progress will be noticed. What makes this apprenticeship worth your time is the structure behind it. You get a long-term plan, not a vague promise: a 7-year development programme, BCIA training plus formal BMS qualifications, and a step-by-step route into a career in smart buildings.

Because the business is employee-owned, people tend to think long-term and do things properly. As you progress, you will be trusted with more responsibility rather than being stuck doing the same basic tasks.

The honest bit: this is not a sit-at-a-desk apprenticeship. You will be travelling to customer sites, learning in live building environments, and balancing work with study. Some days will start early and some problems will take patience. If you like being hands-on, learning on the move, and earning while you train, you will do well here.

• a full UK driving licence;
• strong communication and a professional approach with customers;
• willingness to travel across the region and commit to the study side of the apprenticeship.

Salary depends on age and experience (apprenticeship guidance applies). Company car or car allowance by the end of year
3. Employee-Owned Trust inclusion after 12 months. 6% pension contribution. BUPA private medical. 4x life assurance. 25 days holiday plus bank holidays, with the option to buy up to 3 extra days. Cycle to work scheme up to £2,500.
