Great new opportunity within a well-established and growing engineering consultancy looking to appoint an experienced Principal Civil Engineer to join their Cardiff office.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Senior or Principal level Civil Engineer looking to take ownership of project delivery, mentor junior engineers, and play a key role in the continued growth of the business.

The company delivers a diverse portfolio of projects across South Wales, the West of England, spanning residential and commercial housing developments, social housing, care homes, renewable energy projects including wind farms, industrial and commercial developments, remediation works, and emerging opportunities within the rail sector.

The Role

As Principal Civil Engineer, you will oversee the technical delivery of multiple projects while ensuring high-quality engineering design and commercial performance throughout.

You will work closely with both clients and internal teams, taking responsibility for design quality, project coordination, and mentoring engineers within the team.

What you’ll be doing
  • Lead the technical delivery of civil engineering projects
  • Produce and review drainage, highways, and infrastructure designs
  • Ensure projects are delivered to agreed technical and commercial standards
  • Support and mentor junior members of the design team
  • Liaise directly with clients, local authorities, and utilities providers
  • Contribute to project planning and resource management
What we’re looking for
  • Significant post-graduate experience within Civil Engineering
  • Strong background in highways, drainage, and infrastructure design
  • Experience managing and delivering projects independently
  • Good understanding of highways and drainage adoption procedures
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience using Micro Drainage, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Microsoft Office
  • Chartered Engineer status preferred but not essential
  • Strong client-facing and leadership skills
  • Full UK driving licence required
