About The Division

The Water Utilities Division is Mott Mac Donald’s centre of excellence for responding to the UK and Ireland's water and wastewater challenges. The work we do is at the forefront of ensuring safe water supplies for future generations, preventing urban flooding, and improving the health of our rivers and coastal environments. Our multi‑disciplinary teams provide a variety of services throughout the full project life cycle, from advisory services and feasibility studies to outline and detailed design.

Overview Of

The Role

The Asset Management and Infrastructure Planning team is one of five subsectors within our Water Utilities Division, a 510‑strong community of specialists across the UK. We work with UK and international water companies and infrastructure providers to deliver strategic, technical and systematic expertise across the following areas:

  • Technical assurance of statutory and regulatory submissions (e.g., annual performance reporting, business cases, business plans, long‑term strategies, operational plans)
  • Water resource investment planning
  • Wastewater and bioresources investment planning
  • Strategic asset management and business planning
  • Carbon and net‑zero appraisal and strategic planning
  • Integrated systems management
  • Data interpretation and decision‑support tools
  • Contract appraisal (NEC, PPP)

We are growing our capability for strategic options development of concepts for inclusion in water company business plans and long‑term planning frameworks.

As an Associate Asset Management Engineer, you will be at the heart of delivering investment plans for our clients, with significant contributions to our business development and technical capability. Reporting to the Workstream Lead, you will be an important part of our investment planning team and the wider asset management practice community.

This is an opportunity to be involved and to play a key role in our investment planning offering and to promote best value planning through internal and external communication and industry presence.

Candidate specification Essential
  • Relevant water management, engineering or other related degree
  • Background of engineering, options appraisal or development long‑term strategic plans and Water Resources Management Plans/ Drainage and Wastewater Management Plans/ Strategic Regional Options
  • Proven experience developing complex water or wastewater engineering solutions
  • Familiarity with UK water sector regulation
  • Experience of feasibility studies, options appraisal, best value planning, stakeholder engagement and regulatory liaison
  • Excellent report writing and presenting skills
  • Ability to provide support and mentoring to junior members of the team and promote “can‑do” behaviours and coaching activities
  • Capable at project management, developing client relationships and business development
