Position: Protection & Control Engineer (Energy)

A Little More About Your Role

As a Protection & Control Engineer working within the UK Energy business, you will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to deliver the power transmission infrastructure that will help the UK Energy System achieve Net Zero. You will be responsible for designing and developing protection and control systems for electrical power transmission and distribution networks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design protection and control systems for electrical power transmission and distribution networks.
  • Develop detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and design documentation using software tools such as AutoCAD and ETAP.
  • Perform technical calculations and analysis to ensure the reliability and performance of protection and control systems.
  • Ensure designs comply with industry standards, safety regulations, and environmental guidelines.
  • Conduct site surveys and assessments to gather data for design purposes.
  • Collaborate with project managers, electrical engineers, and construction teams to integrate protection and control design requirements into project plans.
  • Review and approve design modifications and provide technical support during installation and commissioning.
  • Conduct design reviews and quality assurance checks to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in protection and control technology and design practices.
Qualifications
  • Minimum HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering.
  • Proven experience in the design of protection and control schemes.
  • Knowledge of electrical networks and engineering standards.
  • Experience interpreting technical documentation related to design.
  • Knowledge and experience with main suppliers’ substation control equipment (e.g., ABB, Hitachi, Siemens, GE).
  • Experience with standards such as IEC 61850 and IEC 60870.
  • Preferable:
    Chartered Engineer status or in progress.
  • Preferable:
    National Grid BP141 Authorisation.
