OpportunityWe are seeking talented and enthusiastic Hydrologists with proven experience delivering water resources assessments, such as support for WRMPs, strategic planning, supply and demand analysis, and drought planning. In this role you will collaborate across a wide range of specialisms — including flood and coastal risk management, water companies, regulatory teams, infrastructure and water advisory, dams and reservoirs, site development, sustainability, and environmental planning — to deliver high‑quality work to agreed scope, timescales and budgets.
You will help strengthen our existing client relationships, support the technical and commercial delivery of projects, and contribute to multidisciplinary assignments that span consultancy and research. You will also play a part in integrating our broad water‑sector expertise into cohesive, value‑adding project outcomes. As part of a supportive team environment you will be mentored by experienced colleagues and encouraged to develop your skills and professional capabilities.
We will fully support your journey toward Chartership with the relevant professional institution.
This role offers the opportunity to work alongside leading experts from across Arup, contributing to high‑impact work that improves resilience, sustainability and outcomes for communities and clients across the UK.
Required Skills- Technical water‑resource modelling, ideally using PyWR. Experience with other tools such as Aquator, MISER, WEAP, or SWAT is advantageous.
- Advanced modelling in Microsoft Excel, including use of formulas, macros/VBA, model interrogation, and optimisation techniques.
- Strong grounding in hydrology, including climate change impacts, rainfall–runoff modelling, water resource analytics, stochastic and probabilistic modelling, and low‑flow analysis.
- Demonstrated ability to build, maintain, and manage strong long‑term relationships with internal teams, clients, and key stakeholders.
- Experience in scenario development and strategic planning, such as adaptive pathways, formal decision‑making approaches, and MCDA.
- Awareness of current and emerging issues in water resources in the UK and internationally.
- Experience using GIS tools (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) and associated scripting.
- Chartered membership of a relevant professional institution or actively working towards chartered status.
