About the Opportunity

AT&R aim to provide world‑leading consultancy services across highly regulated industries. Organised to be independent and free from conflict of interest, Assurance, Technology and Regulation (AT&R) provide a range of trusted, evidence‑based, support services to ensure that systems, technologies and processes are safe, effective, compliant and future‑ready, across three main areas:

Independent Assurance – We provide risk‑based, proportionate, independent oversight and assurance of whether a project, process, system or product meets defined standards, requirements or expectations.

Research & Technology – We identify, define and execute programmes of research and technology to support the continued safe operation of some of the world’s most complex engineering challenges, including the UK Naval Nuclear Propulsion Programme.

Independent Regulatory Support – A ring‑fenced and independent organisation that supports regulators with assessments, audits and guidance development.

With an aspiration to grow, transform and evolve into new industries, locations and technologies.

About the Role

Our Regulatory Support Directorate (RSD) has been supporting the Ministry of Defence’s (MoD) Defence Nuclear Safety Regulator and the Office for Nuclear Regulation over several decades. We have a number of exciting opportunities to join this diverse team of highly experienced staff to provide a key role in supporting the UK’s nuclear regulators (DNSR & ONR) with expert technical advice related to the safety of nuclear systems and activities.

You will be conducting a range of technical assessment advice and inspection services in support of regulation of the Defence Nuclear Enterprise, as well as the UK civil nuclear programme. This includes the provision of nuclear safety and technical assessment, audit and inspections, as well as civil nuclear projects under contract to the ONR. The role will require you to work with a wide range of technical disciplines to provide balanced and proportionate advice.

Your responsibilities will also include development of DNSR policy and interactions with other regulatory bodies, which offer another area of support.

We are seeking individuals who are passionate about nuclear safety with a desire to work in support of some of the most complex, challenging and important projects within the UK.

This role is open to candidates with a range of experience levels, from early career to seasoned experts (entry, intermediate, associate, career, senior, specialist). The scope and responsibilities of the roles will be aligned based on the qualifications, experience and strengths of each candidate.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver technical analysis, regulatory reviews, assessment and inspection support, completing assigned tasks to time, cost and quality.
  • Represent RSD, supporting DNSR on site (e.g. at DNSR or Authorised meetings or inspections).
