Job Description & How to Apply Below

The UK's infrastructure landscape is being reshaped right now. AMP8 is at its peak, the energy transition is accelerating, and the pressure to deliver projects that are both technically excellent and genuinely sustainable has never been greater. At Stantec, our Environmental Services Team is rising to that challenge, and we are looking for a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join it.

This is a role for someone who brings real technical depth, cares about doing the work well and is ready to contribute to projects that leave a lasting mark on the infrastructure and natural environments of the UK and Ireland.

About

The Role

You will join one of our collaborative regional teams across the UK and Ireland, working across major infrastructure programmes for clients including United Utilities, Yorkshire Water, Northumbrian Water, Dwr Cymru and South West Water. Beyond the water sector, our regional hubs are growing and diversifying, with opportunities across the energy transition, coastal resilience and large-scale community developments.

Day to day, you will lead the preparation of complex desk studies and interpretative geotechnical reports across a variety of ground conditions, undertake and oversee the analysis of sophisticated geotechnical structures, and work alongside multidisciplinary engineering and design teams to provide clear, actionable ground risk intelligence to clients and contractors.

You will also play an important role in developing graduate and junior engineers, sharing your expertise and helping maintain the high technical standards the team is known for. Digital innovation is part of how we work here, and you will be expected to bring an interest in advanced data tools and digital workflows that make ground investigation and design processes sharper and more efficient.

Your

Impact

The geotechnical work you lead will underpin some of the most significant infrastructure programmes in the UK and Ireland, from water assets serving millions of people to projects at the forefront of the energy transition. Your ability to translate ground risk into design intelligence will be central to the success of those projects.

The engineers you mentor will carry the standards and curiosity you help instil long into their own careers, and the digital approaches you champion will shape how the team works well beyond any individual project.

About You

You hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Geology or a related discipline, and you are a Chartered member of a relevant institution such as ICE or the Geological Society, or you are in the very final stages of achieving that status.

You bring extensive experience in preparing complex desk studies, conducting site inspections, authoring detailed interpretative geotechnical reports, and analysing sophisticated geotechnical structures. You communicate ground risk clearly and confidently to clients, contractors and multidisciplinary colleagues, and you bring genuine enthusiasm for nature-positive, sustainable solutions.

You are technically curious, energised by digital innovation and looking for an environment where those qualities are the norm rather than the exception.
