We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Design Integration Engineers to join our Consulting Rail Systems Engineering Team. Our particular focus is on building our team in London and the Southeast to support the TfL Infrastructure Improvement Framework. With shared office locations in Manchester, Birmingham, Derby, York, Bristol, Swindon, Cardiff and London, we also welcome applications from candidates across these regions and from elsewhere in the UK.

The standard hours of work are 37.5 hours per week, but we offer a range of flexible working practices, including hybrid, part-time and flexible working patterns. Amey Consulting is seeking talented individuals at all levels to join our dynamic team as Design Integration Engineers. We’re looking for professional engineers who have an appetite and aptitude for integrating multi-disciplinary design activities, supporting the Engineering Manager on our wide-ranging portfolio of rail projects.

We are an appointed Design Partner on some of the UK’s most significant and complex rail infrastructure projects. We are proud to support major programmes such as the TfL Infrastructure Improvement Framework, Northern Powerhouse Rail Design Delivery Partner Framework, Eastern Routes Partnership, Northwest & Central Framework, the Core Valley Lines Transformation, Trans-Pennine Route Upgrade, and Cardiff Crossrail. Our in-house engineering team delivers design solutions across all project stages and disciplines, driving improved connectivity, enhancing passenger journeys, and shaping the future of rail safety and efficiency.

These projects also provide a diverse range of opportunities for personal and professional development, whether you are working on long-term, high-value programmes or smaller, community-focused initiatives. With these frameworks in place, you will have the chance to influence infrastructure projects that shape the region’s future.

What you will be doing

You’ll play a pivotal role in delivering innovative rail solutions, working across the whole railway system including multi-disciplinary infrastructure integration, rolling stock and operations, system safety and entry into service, and maintenance.

Responsibilities include:

  • Work as the deputy to the (C)
    EM on a wide range of design projects, applying Systems Engineering techniques and the Amey Engineering Management Manual to define, integrate, and deliver quality engineering solutions.
  • Manage the allocation of project requirements, ensuring each has a discipline owner, and maintaining the compliance matrix (V&V).
  • Coordinate and support verification and validation activities by the discipline design leads.
  • Prepare and review action logs, project programmes, and ensure cross-discipline interface are identified and managed.
  • Support (C)
    EMs and PMs using appropriate systems engineering processes and engineering management within the applicable End-to-End Stage Gate processes.
  • Facilitate impact assessments for project changes and support the (C)
    EM in managing the design integration and coordination process through to design publication.
  • Collaborate with Technical Directors, Practice Leads and Team Leaders to drive technical excellence and continuous improvement on multi-disciplinary projects.
