Position: Graduate Infrastructure Mechanical Engineer 2027

You see the world through a unique lens and that’s exactly what we need. We embrace how you see things differently – it’s essential for creating a sustainable future.

Arup is a global consultancy with advisory and technical expertise across more than 150 disciplines. We guide, plan and design the future of the built environment. Globally, each year we recruit hundreds of graduates and students who help us see things differently and solve the most complex challenges facing our clients, climate and communities.

The opportunity

Our mechanical infrastructure team designs and delivers mechanical elements of water and wastewater treatment and pumping projects, supports frameworks and projects for clients such as Welsh Water, Wessex Water, United Utilities and Severn Trent. We work alongside Electrical and ICA engineers to deliver integrated MEICA solutions and provide design leadership, technical assurance, equipment specification, multidisciplinary coordination and support to design Managers and Project Manager.

Our graduates use mechanical engineering principles to solve problems that affect all our lives, such as providing energy, managing waste or treating water. You will work on real projects, designing and learning from experts alongside formal training to support you as you grow into your career. Typical day to day tasks may include designs and calculations, technical reports, building 3D models, mechanical equipment specification, site visits, and a variety of project meetings and workshops.

As you discover more of your own abilities and interests, we work with you to increase your role and expand your capabilities. We encourage our staff to work towards a professional qualification with the IMechE, but throughout your time at Arup, you will always be learning, with support and encouragement from our diverse multidisciplinary teams.

The team is looking to expand beyond its traditional water focus into energy-related work. Areas highlighted in team strategy documents include renewables, hydrogen, hydropower, heat networks, energy storage and decarbonisation projects.
