Environmental Compliance & Protection, Regulatory Compliance Specialist
Senior Environmental Consultant | Remote UK | Up to £55,000 DOE
Be the environmental expert industrial clients rely on to stay compliant, permitted and moving forward.
Our client is a growing UK environmental services group that supports industrial and commercial organisations with environmental compliance, permitting and management systems. As the group expands, it is looking for an experienced Senior Environmental Consultant to join its consultancy team.
This is a remote, UK-wide role with regular travel to client sites in your region. You will manage your own portfolio of clients across food and drink, chemicals, waste management, construction and engineering. For some clients you will effectively be their environmental manager. For others you will be brought in for specialist projects such as permit applications and compliance audits.
It’s a Senior/Principal hands-on role. It suits someone who enjoys the technical work and wants more ownership of client relationships, projects and the growth of the team.
The Role
Key responsibilities will include:
- Advising clients on UK environmental legislation, regulatory requirements and best practice.
- Carrying out environmental legal compliance audits and risk assessments.
- Preparing environmental permit application packs for industrial sites.
- Implementing, maintaining and auditing ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems.
- Writing environmental procedures and documentation, often acting as the client’s outsourced environmental manager.
- Leading projects from start to finish, keeping quality, timescales and budgets on track.
- Acting as the main point of contact for clients and regulators.
- Delivering training sessions and workshops on environmental compliance and sustainability.
- Mentoring and supporting junior consultants.
- Identifying new business opportunities and preparing proposals and tenders.
About You
The ideal candidate will have experience in environmental consultancy or a relevant in-house environmental role, ideally on regulated industrial sites.
Relevant knowledge and experience should include:
- Compliance auditing: experience leading environmental legal compliance audits and risk assessments.
- Environmental permitting: hands-on experience preparing or contributing to permit applications for industrial clients.
- ISO 14001: practical experience implementing, maintaining or auditing an Environmental Management System.
- Lead Auditor: a recognised Lead Auditor qualification.
- UK environmental law: a strong working knowledge of the legal framework, including waste management and climate-related requirements.
- Project and client management: a track record of running several projects at once and building strong client relationships.
- Communication: excellent report writing, presentation and stakeholder engagement skills.
- A degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Sustainability or a related subject would be advantageous, although relevant field experience will also be considered. Practitioner membership of a relevant professional body, such as ISEP or CIWEM, is also desirable.
Why Apply?
- Work remotely across the UK, with travel to client sites as needed.
- Take on a senior role with real ownership of clients, projects and junior team members.
- Build your experience across a varied mix of industrial sectors.
- Help shape the growth of a consultancy team within an expanding group.
- Keep developing your skills with ongoing professional development.
