Principal Highway Engineer

RGB Recruitment seeks a Principal Highway Engineer for an award-winning multidisciplinary consultancy in Cardiff, with a salary of £50,000 to £65,000 per annum on a full-time contract. The successful candidate will lead highway design schemes from concept through to construction across residential, commercial, industrial and mixed-use developments in South Wales and beyond. Responsibilities include mentoring junior engineers and liaising with clients, local authorities and design teams.

Strong technical design capability, project leadership and communication skills are essential. This permanent post suits an experienced engineer ready to take a senior role within a collaborative consultancy enjoying a robust project pipeline.

Lead the design and delivery of highway and infrastructure schemes using AutoCAD and Civil 3D.

Prepare highway designs for residential, commercial, industrial and mixed-use developments.

Design junction improvements, access roads, estate roads and highway infrastructure in accordance with local and national standards.

Produce technical drawings and specifications to support planning applications and detailed design.

Manage Section 278, Section 38 and other highway agreements through the approval process.

Liaise with local highway authorities, clients and external stakeholders to deliver successful project outcomes.

Provide technical leadership, mentoring and line management to engineers within the team.

Support business development activities and contribute to winning new work.

• Proven experience in highway design within a consultancy environment.
• Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
• Experience delivering highway schemes in accordance with DMRB, Manual for Streets and local authority design standards.
• Extensive knowledge of Section 278 and Section 38 agreements and the associated approval processes.
• Excellent communication and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Experience mentoring and developing junior engineers.
• Chartered status (CEng or IEng), or working towards chartership, would be advantageous.
