Our client, a not for profit organisation, seeks a payroll officer to join its finance team to provide a seamless and professional payroll service for its 700 employees. The job will involve supporting the payroll lead in delivering a timely and efficient service to its loyal staff.

The ideal candidate will already have some payroll experience and be keen to join an organisation that has cultivated an incredibly loyal and dedicated workforce. The role is offered on 12 month Fixed Term Contract basis, for 4 or 5 days a week and there is a flexible and hybrid working policy on offer.

The job

Payroll Processing

  • Coordinate all relevant payroll information and ensure it has been accurately recorded in the payroll system and timesheet database each month.
  • Coordinate the auto enrolment for pensions each month
  • Ensure all deductions and attachments to earnings are paid to the relevant authorities each month.
  • Contribute to correct and accurate PAYE, National Insurance and Statutory Payments records, including SSP, SMP and SPP

Month End processing, including:

  • Contribute to the timely preparation and upload of BACS files in readiness for submissions for salary and third party payments
  • Assist with the FPS & EPS submissions to HMRC each month within HMRC guidelines
  • Contribute to the timely preparation and distribution of the third-party monthly reports

Audit of Payroll

  • Contribute to the effective control of the payroll process by performing relevant reconciliations, gaining appropriate authorisations and storing data according to Data Protection (GDPR) regulations.

Maintain relationships with internal departments and external stakeholders

  • Contribute to the effective investigation and conclusion of payroll enquiries and other payroll matters raised by internal or external stakeholders.
  • Coordinate monthly payroll reports for Finance and all relevant reports for other departments and internal and external auditors, as required.
The person specification
  • Previous experience as a Payroll Officer, Payroll Clerk, or in a similar role
  • Knowledge of UK legislation as it applies to payroll processes
  • IT literacy with proficiency in Excel

  • £28,000 pa FTE
  • Part time of full time – 4 or 5 day working week considered (37.5 FT week)
