We are currently working on behalf of a client within the Financial Planning sector, seeking a Senior Technical Manager & Paraplanner to join their team in Cardiff. This senior technical role is responsible for supporting Financial Planners with high‑quality research, analysis, suitability reports and client recommendations, while also overseeing the workload and development of Paraplanners and Trainee Paraplanners. The successful candidate will maintain the quality of paraplanning work across the business, support complex client cases and ensure advice documentation is accurate, compliant and tailored to client objectives.
Key Responsibilities- Manage and oversee the workload of Paraplanners and Trainee Paraplanners.
- Monitor the quality of paraplanning work produced internally and by outsourced paraplanning providers.
- Liaise with outsourced paraplanning firms and coordinate work to be completed.
- Act as a point of contact for technical queries relating to paraplanning work.
- Attend leadership meetings and contribute to wider business discussions.
- Prepare new and existing client cashflows for cashflow meetings and Annual Strategy Meetings.
- Review meeting notes and tasks from Financial Planners and carry out agreed actions.
- Interpret client data gathered by Financial Planners and establish suitable recommendations.
- Analyse information received from clients and providers to identify appropriate solutions.
- Contact providers and third parties to gather detailed client and product information.
- Complete research and ensure this is saved accurately and consistently.
- Write suitability letters and financial planning reports that are accurate, personalised and aligned to client objectives.
- Prepare supporting appendices, illustrations, applications and key features documentation.
- Implement agreed actions following Authority to Proceed notifications.
- Monitor negative cash positions and recommend appropriate solutions.
- Complete annual ISA reporting where applicable.
- Participate in investment committee meetings.
- Analyse and provide specific client portfolio reporting.
- Ensure all work is carried out in line with compliance procedures.
- Keep up to date with legislation, product changes and ongoing CPD requirements.
- Previous experience in a Senior Paraplanner, Technical Manager or similar technical financial planning role.
- Strong technical knowledge across pensions, investments, tax wrappers and financial planning processes.
- Experience writing suitability letters and financial planning reports.
- Ability to review and assess the quality of paraplanning work.
- Experience supporting or mentoring Paraplanners / Trainee Paraplanners would be highly desirable.
- Diploma in Financial Planning or equivalent qualification.
- Willingness to work towards Level 6 qualification with a recognised professional body.
- Strong research, analytical and report‑writing skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to work accurately under own initiative.
