We are looking for a Relationship Director to support a Mid Markets portfolio of clients and prospects within the South Wales region. The role involves providing bespoke financial solutions including lending, deposits, and a range of other products and services, with a focus on business and professional services, manufacturing, wholesale and consumer, technology, media and telecoms, and healthcare.
Responsibilities- Proactively originate new‑to‑bank opportunities, focusing on debt transactions through direct client outreach and a network of introducers.
- Build and maintain deep relationships with key business introducers such as private equity, debt advisers, accountants, and lawyers.
- Understand client strategies and funding requirements to structure compelling, competitive debt solutions.
- Drive balance sheet growth through disciplined deployment of capital and increasing share of wallet with new and existing clients.
- Lead negotiations on pricing, terms, and structure to deliver strong client outcomes aligned with risk appetite and return objectives.
- Handle and develop high‑profile client relationships, placing the client at the centre of all interactions and acting as a trusted advisor.
- Manage the risk side of your client portfolio, including supporting clients with ESG strategies and the journey to Net Zero.
- Support the development of others in the team and invest in your own personal development opportunities.
- 5+ years of proven experience in corporate banking, corporate finance, or private equity at the Mid Markets level.
- Strong communication skills and experience building, creating, and maintaining relationships with clients and influential external partners.
- Proven credit experience – ability to evaluate propositions and make confident, commercial recommendations to the credit team.
- Strong financial and numerical skills, with a detailed understanding of legal documentation.
- Ability to effectively negotiate legal and commercial terms.
- Understanding of the different types of risk in a lending environment and methods to minimise such risk.
