Reconciliation Operations (Rec Ops) Specialist

We’re Capital on Tap Capital on Tap started because small businesses were underserved. Big banks were slow, their products weren't fit for purpose, and small business owners often couldn't access what they needed. We set out to fix that.

Today we're a financial platform - not just a credit card company. We offer a best-in-class business credit card, SME-focused spend management platform, a savings product that hit £1 billion in funds within its first year, and a growing suite of tools and financial products that make running a small business easier.

1,000+ employees, £20bn in annual card spend, 200,000+ customers, 17,000+ Trustpilot reviews averaging 4.7 stars, and we're profitable. We’ve done a pretty good job so far, but we’re just getting started!

Rec Ops

Our reconciliations support Capital on Tap’s regulatory obligations as an FCA-regulated firm, in particular the safeguarding of customer funds. Accurate, timely reconciliations are a core part of how we evidence that those obligations are being met, so the quality of your work has a direct regulatory impact.

Rec Ops is a Finance Operations function, and you will be part of the Finance team. You will work exceptionally closely with Tech Ops, Data and Engineering, so you will see how the whole business fits together.

About the Role

We’re growing! This is a brand new function at Capital on Tap, and you will be the first person in it.

You will own the reconciliation of all customer-facing bank operations, making sure the money that moves for our customers match across our banks, payment partners, card processors and internal systems. You will be the first point of contact for breaks, drive them to the root cause, you’ll have a real say in how the process is built from the ground up.

This is a rare chance to define a function, set the standards for it and grow with it.

What You’ll be Doing
  • Owning the daily reconciliation of customer-facing money movements across the UK and US.
  • Investigating unmatched items and breaks, and work with Operations, Customer Support and other teams to resolve them.
  • Keeping reconciliations current, with clear ownership, ageing of open items and sign-off evidence.
  • Reporting regularly on reconciliation status, break volumes, ageing and root causes.
  • Reviewing reconciliation processes and assess whether the controls around them are designed and operating effectively. Recommend and implement improvements.
  • Reconciling payments that need to be safeguarded on a daily basis, and report on them at the end of each day.
  • Just Pilot: We never settle for “good enough”. We pilot new ideas fast, ask questions to figure it out, and scale quickly.
  • Why Not Today? Fast is as slow as we go - speed and simplicity gives us a competitive advantage.
  • Be a Buddy: We tap in from day one to help the team, we do the right thing even if it’s hard.
  • Owners and Dates: We don’t chase people. If you own a task and agree to a date, the expectation is that it gets done.
  • Feedback: We want our employees to flourish, so we regularly provide direct and constructive feedback.
  • Understanding of how payments move and settle.
  • Able to work independently to strict deadlines.
