BTP is seeking PCSOs to join our team, protecting and serving the railway environment and its community to minimise disruption, crime and fear of crime. This role is crucial to our mission. Like Home Office PCSOs, BTP PCSOs focus on enforcing BTP Byelaws within the railway environment, offering diverse responsibilities where no two days are the same.
Responsibilities- Conduct visible patrols at stations.
- Provide victim care and support.
- Manage security threats and minor crime investigations.
- Build community relationships and liaise with local residents.
- Support Police Constables where required.
- Operate as a trained and equipped PCSO, including the use of handcuffs.
- Work shifts, including weekends and bank holidays.
Ideal candidates demonstrate resilience, excellent customer service skills, and a passion for community engagement and partnership‑building.
Benefits and CompensationCompetitive salary: £28,486.92 rising up to £31,895.68 over time, with up to 20% shift allowance. A minimum of 15% shift allowance is received upon completion of 8 weeks training, increasing year on year until the top rate is reached. Benefits include 28 days holiday (rising to 30 days), travel benefits, and access to internal progression opportunities. Continuous learning and development are supported by our in‑house talent & development teams, with the option to progress to a Police Officer.
£28,486.90 per annum plus up to 20% shift allowance. Shift allowance can be up to 20% but will default to 15% in the first instance.
Pension: BTP GPP Police Staff Pension Scheme is a defined contribution scheme, offering employees the flexibility to vary pension contributions from 4.4% to 12% of salary. The scheme is administered by Royal London.
Eligibility- Unsuccessful PCSO applications with BTP in the last 6 months.
- Unsuccessful application or online testing for Police Officer, Special Constable or PCSO roles; must wait 6 months before reapplying.
- Unsuccessful BTP vetting checks within the last 12 months.
- Any custodial sentence, including suspended sentences; other cautions, convictions and involvement with the police must be declared but are not necessarily a bar.
- Previously dismissed from another force or currently under live investigation.
- Declared bankrupt, held a CCJ or an unmanaged IVA.
- Offensive tattoos (face and neck considered case‑by‑case).
- No permanent right to live and work in the UK.
- Not consistently resided in the UK for the past 3 years.
