Position: PRINCIPAL PROJECT OFFICER

Cardiff Council's Recycling & Neighbourhood Services team is at the forefront of delivering ambitious environmental improvements and supporting the city's transition towards a circular economy. We are responsible for developing and implementing innovative recycling and waste policies that contribute to Welsh Government targets, reduce environmental impacts and support Cardiff's wider sustainability ambitions.

As part of the Recycling Neighbourhood Services Team, you will help shape the future of recycling services in Cardiff, working with partners across local government, Welsh Government, WRAP, the WLGA and other key stakeholders to drive positive change and deliver meaningful environmental outcomes.

About the job

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Principal Project Officer to support the development and delivery of Cardiff's Recycling Strategy and Circular Economy programme.

This exciting role will involve providing policy and strategic support to senior managers and Cabinet Members, undertaking research and analysis to inform service improvements, managing programme governance arrangements, and developing funding applications to support transformational projects.

What We Are Looking For From You

We are looking for a strategic thinker with a strong understanding of waste, recycling and environmental policy, together with experience of undertaking research, analysis and programme development.

You will have excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work effectively with senior managers, elected members and external stakeholders. Experience of leading projects, managing change and developing practical solutions to complex challenges is essential.

The successful candidate will be self-motivated, highly organised and able to work under pressure while maintaining a focus on delivering high-quality outcomes. You will be passionate about environmental improvement, partnership working and helping Cardiff achieve its recycling and circular economy objectives.

Additional information

The role may require travel across various locations.
