Overview
The Virtually Assessed Pathway (VAP) clinic is an award‑winning service at Velindre Cancer Centre. This post holder will join a small, friendly team of nurses and pharmacy technicians led by independent prescribers. The main aspect of the role is to work as part of the telephone assessment clinic to clinically assess a patient’s fitness to proceed with the next cycle of systemic anti-cancer treatment (SACT) using a robust assessment form, under the supervision of an independent prescriber.
There may be a requirement to work occasionally in the face‑to‑face pre‑SACT assessment clinics.
- Assess patients’ care needs and participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care.
- Contribute to the wider clinical governance agenda, including service developments and flexible working to meet patient needs.
- Work within the VAP clinic to maintain continuity of care and develop ongoing relationships with patients through their SACT pathway.
The VAP clinic currently works with teams assessing patients on suitable regimens from the following cancer sites:
Colorectal, Breast, Urology, Gynae, Skin, UGI, Hepatobiliary, Lung. The New Velindre Cancer Centre (nVCC) offers world‑class NHS facilities and supports cancer research and collaboration regionally. The post holder will work within Velindre Cancer Centre as a non‑surgical tertiary centre treating solid tumours.
- Experience of working in oncology is essential.
- The SACT administration passport is desirable for this role.
- The ability to speak Welsh is desirable;
