Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a permanent Band 7 Ward Sister/Charge Nurse within the Medicine Clinical Board managing the Stroke Rehabilitation Unit at University Hospital Llandough. The Stroke Rehabilitation Unit provides specialist, multidisciplinary care for patients recovering from stroke. Its purpose is to support patients in regaining independence and improving quality of life through tailored rehabilitation programmes, including physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, and nursing care.

The unit focuses on holistic recovery, addressing physical, cognitive, and emotional needs, while ensuring safe discharge planning and continuity of care within the community.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and motivate staff to deliver high‑quality care to patients.
  • Manage both clinically and managerially, ensuring effective planning and implementation of care needs in line with available resources.
  • Work in partnership with the Integrated Discharge Service, Allied Health Professionals, and Local Authority colleagues to ensure a person‑centred experience.
  • Ensure the ward team provides safe and effective care to patients.
  • Collaborate with senior and lead nurse teams to support the ward.
  • Demonstrate flexibility, approachability, compassion, and effective time management.
  • Provide supervision to nursing staff.
Qualifications
  • Band 7 nursing experience with a proven history of providing supervision to nursing staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and support a multidisciplinary team.
  • Passion for excellence and a role‑model attitude.
  • Flexibility, approachability, compassion, and strong time‑management skills.
  • Desirable to speak Welsh;
    Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
