Operating Department Practitioner

Overview

As an RAF Operating Department Practitioner (ODP), you are an integral member of the theatre team, responsible for peri-operative patient care and the smooth operation of the operating theatre and its specialised equipment. You will also function as part of the anaesthetic, scrub and recovery teams.

• Act as a multifunctional part of anaesthetic, scrub and recovery teams
• Provide resuscitation and first surgical assistance
• Reprocess instruments and other reusable medical devices in the Sterile Services Department

• Unqualified: Minimum of 112 UCAS points; further qualifications required.
• Qualified: Fully registered with the HCPC of the United Kingdom and a practising Operating Department Practitioner.
• Aged 17 – 47 years old (must attest before 48th birthday).
• Meet specific Nationality and Residency criteria.

• Phase One – Basic Recruit Training: 10 weeks at RAF Halton.
• Phase Two – Specialist Training: ongoing as assigned.
• First tour – specialist training, ongoing as assigned at RCDM Birmingham, RCDM Oxford or JHG (SW) in Portsmouth.
• Ongoing training and development continued throughout service; eligible for promotion to Air Specialist (Class
  1) after one year of service.
