Overview
As an RAF Operating Department Practitioner (ODP), you are an integral member of the theatre team, responsible for peri-operative patient care and the smooth operation of the operating theatre and its specialised equipment. You will also function as part of the anaesthetic, scrub and recovery teams.
Responsibilities- Act as a multifunctional part of anaesthetic, scrub and recovery teams
- Provide resuscitation and first surgical assistance
- Reprocess instruments and other reusable medical devices in the Sterile Services Department
- Unqualified: Minimum of 112 UCAS points; further qualifications required.
- Qualified: Fully registered with the HCPC of the United Kingdom and a practising Operating Department Practitioner.
- Aged 17 – 47 years old (must attest before 48th birthday).
- Meet specific Nationality and Residency criteria.
- Phase One – Basic Recruit Training: 10 weeks at RAF Halton.
- Phase Two – Specialist Training: ongoing as assigned.
- First tour – specialist training, ongoing as assigned at RCDM Birmingham, RCDM Oxford or JHG (SW) in Portsmouth.
- Ongoing training and development continued throughout service; eligible for promotion to Air Specialist (Class
1) after one year of service.
