Biomedical Scientist (Band
5) Haematology/Blood Transfusion -

An opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Biomedical Scientists to join the dynamic and evolving team within the Haematology Department at Cardiff and Vale University Health Board.

The department is looking for a HCPC Registered Biomedical Scientist with IBMS Certificate of Competence (or equivalent pre-2004).

The Haematology Department is one of the largest in the UK offering a wide variety of analyses using modern equipment and processes over 3,000 samples each day. The department holds UKAS ISO
15189:2012 accreditation and is an HCPC approved training laboratory. Training and development opportunities are available and all staff are encouraged actively to participate in CPD. The department is a tertiary referral site for Haemostasis & Thrombosis, Haemoglobinopathies and Immunophenotyping services.

Previous experience in NHS is essential.

The department would consider a trainee post at Annex 21 Band 5 (75%)

In order to provide the most comprehensive experience, the successful applicants will participate in the laboratory rotation through the core sections of Automated Haematology and Coagulation in addition to the specialist area of Blood Transfusion; you will be expected to work at either laboratory site (University Hospital of

Wales/University Hospital Llandough) and undertake their contracted hours over a seven day period with participation in shift working following a suitable period of training within the department.

Further opportunities will be provided to rotate into specialised laboratories.

• HCPC Registration, IBMS Certificate of competence, Biomedical Sciences or other IBMS approved Degree
• IBMS Specialist Diploma in Haematology and Hospital Transfusion practice

• Sufficient experience as a registered BMSworking in NHS Haematology laboratory
• Previous experience in a Haematology laboratory . Experience of shift work

• Manual dexterity, computer/keyboard skills, able to communicate effectively
• organisational skills, working knowledge of microsoft office, previous experience of LIMS system

• Knowledge of GLP and GMP
• health and saftey awareness, knowledge of LPs

• Ability to work as a team memnber, Euthusiatic /movtivated
• Ability to speak Welsh
