  • To assess patients within the Clinical Psychology and Counselling Service who have complex, severe, challenging psychological problems in relation to cancer, which require the specialist interventions provided by Practitioner Psychologists.
  • To construct a psychological formulation of each patients difficulties and develop an individualised intervention and management plan.
  • To provide the psychological therapy required to address the patients difficulties, as predicted by the formulation.
  • To deliver clinical interventions in a group setting as required by service need.
  • To provide consultation and advice to professional staff working within Cancer Services on psychological assessment, therapy, and techniques for working effectively with clinical presentations.
  • To be a contributor of psychological knowledge and expertise to the work of the multidisciplinary team.
  • To communicate and liaise with colleagues in Cancer Services about progress in therapy and their work with shared patients.
  • To provide regular feedback to referral agents on the progress of their work with the patient referred.
  • To be responsible for all administrative tasks relating to casework including keeping case notes, therapeutic correspondence, patient data base records etc. in line with the Policies and Procedures of Clinical Psychology & Counselling Service.
  • To engage in joint clinical work with colleagues where appropriate and agreed by the Consultant Clinical Psychologist.
  • To work with the Clinical Psychology & Counselling Service to manage all psychology referrals.
  • To be responsible for own clinical work and work as an independent practitioner.
  • To engage with psychologists from other specialities to discuss, plan and work with patients who have cross speciality service needs.
  • To use appropriate techniques if in a challenging situation with a patient to preserve own safety.
