Network Engineer, IT Support
Job Description & How to Apply Below
For many years, we've been providing mainstream internet and IT services as Spectrum Internet and Net Support UK. We rebranded to Ogi in 2021 to represent our dedication to Welsh communities and received a significant multi-million-pound investment to deliver a large-scale and ambitious rollout of full fibre internet across South Wales.
We’re looking for multiple Network Field Engineers to join our growing team across South Wales. Although this job posting is geared toward someone with a little more experience, we're open to people at all levels, so if you're a little more senior, junior, or mid-level, feel free to get in touch for a chat and we'll see how the team can work together.
About you…
These opportunities are not for everyone; they are for the few who share the same "cult of ops" beliefs. We are looking for someone who is obsessed with networking. Those who enjoy seeing something develop and who never feel content unless they've done something to the best of their abilities... It's not good enough if "it's okay."
It would be great (but not essential) if you have experience of working in a telecommunications company / ISP (or a similar type of role), as well as
- * Knowledge of IPv4/6 QoS, routing protocols (such as BGP, IS-IS, OSPF), multicast, switching, DWDM/CWDM, passive optical networking (GPON/XGS-PON etc.) and LAN/WAN protocols
* Good knowledge of DHCP, DNS and Linux operating platforms
* Excellent stakeholder, crisis and Incident management
* Knowledge of passive network construction techniques/topology
* Experience with leading datacomms platforms (Cisco IOS, Juniper JUNOS, Nokia GPON etc.)
Other than the above, it would also be great if you had Cisco, Juniper or Alcatel/Nokia certification (or another equivalent) and while we provide a company vehicle, you’ll need a full, clean UK Driving Licence. We also require all engineers to undergo a BPSS background check.
Ultimately you will be responsible for ensuring we are trusted technology partners, always projecting our company culture and values so should also have outstanding customer-facing skills!
What you’ll be doing …
We’re looking for someone with experience in a similar type of role; this is advert may seem a little ambiguous but there are layers to our team which means both we and our network are growing rapidly, things will change as the business grows.
We are looking for talented, technical engineers, if you have been working in Network Operations already, you’ll know the variety involved in a role like this. The role will be very varied, once the cabs are built and live, you could be coordinating the teams to fix things, you could be out in the field, at a customer’s house trying to help understand network issues or doing work at the exchange.
Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
* Onsite and remote technical Maintenance support of the Ogi Active & Passive Network
* Lead service restoration during network incidents in your area
* Provide remote on-call support for Network issues
* Non Primary area holiday and or sickness cover (East, West and Central)
* Project support for expansion or ongoing Network Changes
* Act as technical escalation support for local Installation Team
You’ll be covering one of our build patches across South Wales build area (either West, Central or East, whichever is local to you) and will eventually be part of a larger Network Engineering team that will grow across South Wales; providing guidance on the Network as well as be the point of escalation for Network-specific issues (dependant on work load there is the option for remote in some BAU/support).
Our Network Engineers will need to be able to work a 24/7/365 shift including out of hours, night and holiday working. To give you an idea, you’ll work normal hours in the day (e.g. 8-430) and flex around the work as well as cover out of hours on a rotating shift pattern (inc. Sat / Sun) for support on a Rota – it depends on the work, issues and builds for how this will look though and as we say this will change as we grow!
One thing you should know though is that we are a company that will support your growth, build your technical skills, recognise and reward you for being part of a team that prides itself on being inquisitive, intuitive and able to react at an instant to network incidents.
