IT Business Analyst, Business Systems & Technology Analysis, Systems Analyst, IT Consultant
The Student Record System Programme is replacing Cardiff Metropolitan University's current system a with a modern, cloud-based platform that will transform how we manage the full student lifecycle.
Central to making that new system work is getting the configuration right, and that is precisely what this role is about.
As Configuration Analyst, you will be responsible for the configuration and build of the new Student Record System (SRS), working within the SRS Programme team to ensure the system is set up in line with agreed standardised processes and requirements.
This is a functional, business-facing configuration role. Configuration is done through the vendor's no-code tools and interfaces. You will not be writing code, scripts, or integrations.
You will collaborate closely with the supplier, Subject Matter Experts, and technical colleagues across the programme, turning agreed process designs into a working, tested system ready for go-live.
You’ll lead the way by:
- Configuring the Student Record System in line with agreed business processes, out-of-the-box functionality, and defined exceptions.
- Working closely with the system vendor and SMEs to understand and validate business processes prior to and during configuration.
- Translating process outputs and configuration specifications into working system builds, documenting configuration decisions and maintaining an accurate configuration log throughout the programme.
- Participating in iterative configuration workshops and reviews, incorporating feedback into subsequent build iterations.
- Reporting progress, risks, and issues to the relevant Project Manager, maintaining accurate records of configuration status across all assigned work streams.
You will be a methodical, detail-focused individual with genuine, demonstrable experience of configuring enterprise software, ideally a SaaS or ERP platform, against defined business requirements and process designs. You will be comfortable working hands-on within a live build, translating process outputs into working configuration, and explaining what you have built clearly to colleagues who may not share your technical background.
You will bring strong analytical skills, the discipline to document configuration decisions accurately and consistently, and the collaborative instincts needed to work closely with Subject Matter Experts and supplier consultants throughout an iterative implementation.
A degree-level qualification in IT, Computer Science, Business Information Systems or a related discipline (or equivalent professional experience) is essential.
You will also have:
- Demonstrable experience of configuring or implementing enterprise software systems, ideally including SaaS or ERP platforms, in line with defined business requirements and process designs.
- Experience of working closely with subject matter experts and operational stakeholders to understand and validate business processes prior to and during system configuration.
- Ability to translate process design outputs and functional specifications into working system builds, with experience of documenting configuration decisions and maintaining accurate configuration logs.
- Experience of participating in iterative configuration workshops and reviews, demonstrating system functionality to stakeholders and incorporating feedback into subsequent build iterations.
- Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to configuration work, with a commitment to accuracy, consistency, and thorough documentation throughout the build.
- Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain system functionality clearly to non-technical stakeholders and contribute effectively to cross-functional project teams.
