Lead Commercial Property Underwriter

At Admiral Business, we’re creating a modern, data-led Commercial proposition that combines underwriting expertise, technology and customer insight to deliver better outcomes for brokers and customers alike.

As a core member of our Underwriting team, you’ll play a key role in shaping our Property underwriting strategy, helping us build a profitable, scalable and insight-led Commercial Property proposition. Working closely with Pricing, Product and Data, you’ll use your technical underwriting expertise to influence appetite, improve portfolio performance and support sustainable growth across our UK Commercial Property book.

This isn’t a traditional underwriting role focused solely on individual risks. You’ll help define how we underwrite Property business, how we manage exposure and how we use data, claims insight and market intelligence to make better decisions for our customers, brokers and the business.

We’re not just growing a Commercial portfolio; we’re building the future of Commercial insurance at Admiral.

Property is a critical part of that ambition. As our Commercial proposition develops, we need strong technical expertise to help us make confident decisions on appetite, pricing, risk selection and portfolio management.

You’ll help shape the way we assess Property risks, respond to market trends and build a smarter underwriting capability. By partnering with Pricing, Product and Data, you’ll turn insight into action, balancing technical underwriting judgement with commercial thinking to support long‑term profitable growth.

You’ll have the opportunity to influence far more than individual cases, helping build a Property underwriting capability that will support Admiral Business for years to come.

• Own and monitor the performance of a portfolio of UK Commercial Property business, balancing growth, profitability and customer outcomes.
• Shape Property underwriting appetite, referral strategies, acceptance criteria and portfolio governance.
• Act as a technical Property expert within the Underwriting team, supporting colleagues and helping embed underwriting best practice.
• Partner with Pricing to refine rating models, improve risk selection and optimise portfolio performance.
• Work with Product to evolve our Commercial Property proposition, influencing product design, coverage, wording considerations and customer outcomes.
• Use underwriting data, claims insight, exposure information and market trends to identify opportunities and areas of concern.
• Support the development of underwriting rules and controls across key Property risk factors, including occupancy, construction, fire protection, flood, escape of water, business interruption and sums insured adequacy.
• Help manage Property exposure, accumulation and risk quality across the portfolio.
• Build and develop strong relationships with regional brokers, supporting profitable and sustainable growth.
• Contribute to the development of a scalable, data‑led underwriting capability that supports Admiral’s long‑term ambitions in the Commercial market.

You’re more than an experienced Commercial Property Underwriter. You’re technically strong, commercially curious and motivated by the opportunity to help shape something new.

You’ll bring:

• Proven experience underwriting UK Commercial Property business, ideally across SME, Commercial Package, Property Owners or Commercial Combined products.
• Strong technical knowledge of Property risks, including occupancy, construction, fire, flood, escape of water, theft, business interruption and sums insured.
