A day in the life

As the Underwriting Manager at Many Pets, your responsibilities include drafting policy wordings and other regulatory documentation, ensuring they adhere to the insurance principles, but all clear, concise and in plain English. You’ll participate in the underwriting committees with our partner insurers, taking a tight control on governance, maintaining an excellent relationship with key external stakeholders for underwriting.

As a point of call for all underwriting queries, you’ll respond to operational and claim referrals, ensuring they are resolved within SLAs. This includes developing and maintaining the underwriting processes and guides, working to embed understanding and underwriting philosophy throughout the business.

You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams including Claims, Operations, Marketing, Compliance and Legal, to contribute to delivering a high-quality, customer-focused insurance offering whilst maintaining and representing the underwriting requirements of the Underwriting team.

You’ll be involved in tracking the underwriting performance and our footprint to support profitable growth by identifying product changes, rating improvements and risk appetite/quotability improvements.

Work with the wider CUO team to deliver and deploy optimal UW rules within the Earnix system and collaborate with other trading teams to achieve ongoing targets.

Additionally, you'll help the wider Underwriting team deliver actionable insight across the business and achieve its objectives. This includes liaising with compliance and legal teams to identify the legal and regulatory impacts of changes, ensuring adequate controls and monitoring of governance and risk controls.

Your responsibilities

Support the Underwriting Director in the oversight of the UK pet insurance portfolio.

Working on our pet insurance portfolio, ensuring alignment with business objectives and our goals for excellent customer satisfaction.

Drafting and review of policy wordings and product documentation making sure that it’s in plain English, clear and concise – so everyone can understand the content.

Ensure technical queries are dealt with in agreed time frames, including resolving operations and claims product underwriting queries.

Develop and deliver underwriting rules within the Earnix system. Collaborate with other trading teams to achieve ongoing targets.

Monitor our underwriting footprint (or paw print) ensuring business operates and complies consistently with our different insurance products.

Monitor underwriting performance and support the delivery of loss ratio objectives.

Provide input into the underwriting roadmaps so they are prioritised to deliver against business objectives.

Explore opportunities to improve underwriting processes and procedures.

Review and contribute to underwriting process guides and work with peers to embed understanding through the business.
