BackgroundAn opportunity has arisen for a Paralegal to join our Financial Mis-Selling team, which forms part of Hugh James wider claimant collective litigation practice. The team acts for large cohorts of claimants in complex, high-value financial product and professional negligence claims, including collective claims against failed law firms, business interruption insurance claims, business energy claims and unregulated collective investment schemes, as well as mis-sold pensions and investments.
Many matters involve systemic wrongdoing affecting hundreds or thousands of clients and require coordinated, strategic case management.
The team handles both litigated claims and complaints before the Financial Ombudsman Service and the Financial Services Compensation Scheme. Our work frequently sits at the intersection of consumer protection, regulatory breaches and group litigation strategy.
This opportunity will afford the successful candidate the chance to contribute to structured, large-scale redress claims where consistency, accuracy and strategic thinking are critical.
RoleWorking closely with solicitors in the team, responsible for progressing client cases to include:
- Managing initial client enquiries and undertaking structured eligibility and risk assessments in line with project-wide criteria.
- Preparing retainers and onboarding documentation for high volumes of claimants while ensuring regulatory compliance and consistency.
- Reviewing financial documentation and identifying common issues across claimant groups.

- Supporting litigated claims, including drafting witness statements, preparing court documents and assisting with disclosure exercises involving large datasets.
- Maintaining accurate case management systems across substantial claimant cohorts.
- Providing clear and consistent client updates, often to large groups of clients affected by the same underlying issues.

- Law degree, equivalent academic background or relevant experience.
- Strong interest in claimant litigation and collective redress.
- Highly organised and comfortable working across large volumes of claims with strong attention to detail.
- Confidence when communicating with clients.
- Proactive, analytical and able to identify recurring factual or evidential themes across multiple cases.

Experience of litigated claims, regulatory complaints, or high-volume case management would be advantageous but is not essential.
