Emily has been drafting and advising on a wide range of commercial contracts since qualifying in 2007 and joins Harper James from leading South Coast law firm, Paris Smith where she was promoted to partner.
I am an approachable lawyer who takes a practical commercial approach when advising my clients on their legal position and options. I am an efficient and accurate drafter of commercial contracts. I concentrate on cementing relationships with my clients, so they feel at ease to pick up the phone to me as part of their in-house support.
Emily has completed in-house secondments both at Randstad and more recently, Schneider Electric.
Emily’s clients have included both large international corporates as well as smaller owner managed businesses and notable work highlights include:
- Managing a large project for a global client, putting in place and negotiating distribution agreements with all its UK based electrical distributors and other channel partners;
- Advising a British kitchen appliances manufacturer on its standard terms of trading, distribution agreement, NDA and privacy policy;
- Advising a client on the terms of a Framework Agreement with a software development company for the development, supply and ongoing maintenance of a significant new software package. Also providing ongoing advice as the project has continued on statements of work, change requests and on the client’s legal rights as milestones have been delayed or missed;
- Reviewing and commenting on commercial contracts for the supply of goods and services for established high street retail outlets;
- Drafting Franchise Agreements for two new franchisors – a Greek bakery and hot tub business, ensuring compliance with the standards of the British Franchise Association and competition law;
- Drafting standard terms of business (for the placement of permanent and temporary staff) and a preferred supplier agreement for a large recruitment business, ensuring compliance with applicable sector-specific legislation;
- Drafting terms of business for an outsourced telephone reception service, including advising on the GDPR implications;
I have developed over the years a strong specialism in franchising, supporting both franchisors and franchisees with their legal needs and have been on the panel of recommended lawyers for both Toni & Guy and a leading domiciliary care franchise.
Recruitment is also an area in which I have particular expertise and I have assisted many of my recruitment sector clients with their terms of trading, preferred supplier agreements and other contractual requirements. I spent a few months seconded to a large international recruitment agency providing support to their internal legal team. During this time, I reviewed numerous client contracts for the business for the supply of permanent and temporary staff.
I am therefore well placed to advise clients in the recruitment sector.
Emily lives in sunny Southampton with her husband and two children and in the little spare time she does have(!) likes to travel and keep fit with her local running group and weekly yoga classes.
