Trade Project Manager (HID Global) – Galway, Ireland / Cardiff, UK

Overview

The Trade Compliance Project Manager leads cross‑functional and cross‑regional initiatives to strengthen trade compliance execution, improve operational efficiency, reduce risk, and support business growth. The role partners with regional trade teams, supply chain, procurement, engineering, customer operations, and external service providers to deliver sustainable process improvements and consistent global standards.

Responsibilities
  • Act as the primary liaison between Global Trade and business functions, representing trade compliance across the organization.
  • Lead end‑to‑end trade compliance projects from scoping and charter development through implementation, validation, and handoff.
  • Coordinate cross‑functional stakeholders to ensure compliance across classification, origin, valuation, export controls, sanctions, customs processes, and documentation.
  • Drive project execution by managing timelines, risks, and decision‑making, ensuring regulatory accuracy and operational feasibility.
  • Apply broad trade operations knowledge to deliver complex, cross‑functional, and international initiatives.
  • Influence stakeholders without direct authority; hold teams accountable while maintaining a diplomatic, results‑driven approach.
  • Plan and manage project execution (timelines, milestones, meetings, deliverables) to meet objectives on time and within budget.
  • Communicate project status, risks, and decisions to stakeholders and leadership; escalate issues and propose mitigation actions.
  • Use data and analysis to influence business decisions and drive compliance outcomes.
  • Improve efficiency by optimizing processes, resource utilization, and coordination across business and operations teams.
  • Support M&A activity by conducting trade compliance assessments, defining remediation plans, and aiding integration into HID standards.
  • Develop and enhance trade systems and tools to support compliant government reporting.
  • Support internal and external audits, including interactions with brokers and service providers.
  • Provide trade input to business initiatives and feasibility assessments.
  • Drive continuous improvement through tools, processes, and best practices; train stakeholders on trade compliance requirements.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in International Trade, Supply Chain, Business Management, or related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • 3–5 years of trade compliance, customs, or trade operations experience in a global environment.
  • Strong project management skills with a track record of successful trade/customs project implementation.
  • Working knowledge of trade regulations, tariffs, preferential trade agreements, import/export policies, and customs clearance procedures.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply trade and customs regulations to business processes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with strong listening, planning, organizational, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, influence stakeholders without direct authority, and hold others accountable in a diplomatic manner.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications; experience with project management software such as Microsoft Project or equivalent.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally, approximately 20%.
  • Trade‑related certification (preferred) and experience with Oracle ERP or similar enterprise systems.
