Position: Procurement Specialist - 1 Vacancy

The Procurement Specialist leads commercial sourcing activity across allocated procurement categories, with a core focus on energy, utilities, emission allowances and renewable energy solutions.

The role is responsible for developing and executing procurement strategies that optimise cost, manage risk, ensure security of supply and support regulatory and sustainability objectives.

This position provides market expertise, commercial leadership and procurement capability to deliver measurable cost savings, improve supplier performance and contribute to carbon reduction and sustainability targets.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Category Strategy and Sourcing
  • Develop and deliver procurement strategies for allocated categories using market intelligence, supplier insight, benchmarking and total cost of ownership analysis.
  • Identify and source new suppliers and service providers, leading onboarding and implementation activity with site stakeholders.
  • Lead tender processes, negotiations and contract award activity in collaboration with Legal to ensure commercial robustness and compliance.
  • Deliver measurable cost savings, cost avoidance and value improvement opportunities.
  • Ensure procurement activity supports business requirements, operational continuity, commercial value and compliance standards.
  • Lead the procurement of energy commodities, including electricity, natural gas and associated services.
  • Develop and implement sourcing strategies, including fixed, indexed, blended and other commercial models, aligned to market conditions and organisational risk appetite.
  • Monitor and analyse energy markets, pricing trends and regulatory developments to inform sourcing decisions and identify opportunities.
  • Manage relationships with energy suppliers, brokers and intermediaries to ensure service quality, compliance and value delivery.
  • Identify and implement renewable and low-carbon energy solutions, including green electricity contracts, Power Purchase Agreements, biomethane and solar solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant energy regulations, reporting obligations and emissions frameworks.
  • Lead and support budgeting and forecasting through energy cost modelling, consumption analysis and variance tracking.
  • Deliver strategies to mitigate price volatility and supply risk.
  • Provide internal guidance on energy market dynamics, commercial risk management and sustainability initiatives.
Supplier Management and Performance
  • Manage supplier performance using structured scorecards covering safety, quality, cost and service.
  • Lead supplier review meetings and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Develop corrective action plans where required to drive continuous improvement.
  • Build effective supplier relationships that support business performance, compliance and security of supply.
Operational and Compliance Support
  • Ensure accurate data and contract information is provided to support operational purchasing activities.
  • Ensure all procurement activities comply with internal policies, legal requirements and EHS standards.
  • Maintain strong governance, documentation and audit trails across sourcing activity.
  • Work with internal stakeholders to ensure procurement activity is aligned to operational, commercial, legal and compliance requirements.
Sustainability and Continuous Improvement
  • Support the delivery of carbon reduction and sustainability strategies through procurement activity.
  • Contribute to environmental reporting and compliance programmes.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance energy efficiency, renewable adoption and long-term sustainability outcomes.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across procurement processes, supplier performance and commercial governance.
Experience and Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in procurement, sourcing or supply chain roles.
  • Proven experience of negotiation within commercially complex or volatile markets.
  • Strong experience in sourcing strategy development, tendering and contract implementation.
  • Good understanding of supplier management, category management and total cost of ownership principles.
  • Demonstrable experience or strong understanding of energy procurement, utilities or energy market dynamics.
  • Strong analytical capability, including cost modelling, data analysis and market evaluation.
  • Ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders across multiple functions.
  • Strong commercial awareness and ability to balance cost, risk, compliance and operational requirements.
  • Good communication skills with the ability to explain complex market, commercial and procurement information clearly.
  • Proven experience in energy procurement, including power, gas and renewable energy sourcing.
  • Knowledge of energy-related mechanisms such as CCL, EII, NCC or CPS.
  • Experience with renewable solutions such as Power Purchase Agreements, biomethane or on-site generation.
  • Broader procurement experience across indirect spend, logistics or supply chain services.
  • Experience working with brokers, intermediaries or complex supplier markets.
