Maintenance Operative – Solar & BESS Operations

As a Maintenance Operative, you’ll support the successful delivery of planned and reactive maintenance across a portfolio of utility-scale solar PV and BESS sites. Working closely with our O&M Service Technicians and regional support teams, you’ll help keep our sites safe, operational and well maintained.

What you’ll be doingYou’ll support both planned and reactive maintenance, repair, reporting and operational activities across BSR sites. This is a permanent role and includes participation in a weekend on‑call rota.
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance on grounds, fences, mechanical and structural assets, excluding electrical works.
- Respond to reactive maintenance needs, faults and repairs across grounds, fences, security systems, mechanical and structural assets.
- Complete repair and rectification work across sites to keep assets safe, secure and operational.
- Supervise subcontractors, suppliers, graziers and visitors, including delivering site inductions.
- Conduct inspections, gather information and maintain accurate records using Safety Culture templates and other reporting tools.
- Manage work orders and cases, complete weekly timesheets, and maintain site and vehicle stock inventories.
- Work in line with BSR site access, security control and health and safety procedures.
- Comply with BSR policies, risk assessments, safe systems of work and HV/LV Safety Rules.
- Support the ongoing development of the BSR Quality Management System.
- Take part in self‑led, site‑based and classroom‑based training.
- Travel to other regional areas or sites when required, including occasional overnight stays.
- Provide practical support to O&M Service Technicians as needed.
- Experience in a maintenance operative or similar hands‑on maintenance role.
- Confidence operating plant and UTVs; an NPORS ticket is desirable but not essential.
- A thorough, methodical approach with strong record‑keeping and situational awareness.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work well as part of a team.
- Self‑motivation and confidence working remotely or alone with minimal supervision.
- A proactive approach to learning, development and continuous improvement.
- Strong health and safety awareness; CSCS, SSSTS and first aid qualifications would be desirable.
- Excellent attention to detail, time management and prioritisation skills.
- Broad maintenance knowledge with the ability to problem‑solve and explain solutions clearly.
- A cooperative, action‑focused mindset and willingness to support teams across BSR.
- The ability to remain calm and steady under pressure.
- Comfort working outdoors in all weather conditions and carrying out physically demanding work.
- A clean driving licence; a towing or trailer licence would be beneficial.
