Job Description

As a Project Manager at WSP in the PMCM Rail team you will be responsible for enabling the delivery of complex rail projects of regional, national, and international significance. You will ensure that projects are delivered safely, to a high quality, on time, and within budget.

Our culture encourages work‑life balance and flexible working. You will be based in a modern office, expected to be in an office environment a minimum of three days a week and will visit sites as required.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinating relevant disciplines through project meetings and workshops.
  • Acting as primary point of contact for clients, ensuring their needs are met through both design and construction phases.
  • Developing and managing client and stakeholder relationships through effective listening and influencing skills.
  • Compiling monthly project reports and data‑based scenarios for senior management.
  • Engaging with internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies, local authorities, and community groups.
  • Facilitating regular project meetings, presentations, and progress reports.
  • Managing contract in accordance with contract rules of engagement (including NEC3 &
    4).
  • Managing project budgets, including cost estimation, tracking, and reporting.
  • Optimising resource utilisation and ensuring financial performance aligns with project goals.
  • Reviewing and approving project expenditures and invoices.
  • Managing changes and delays, ensuring they are resolved or mitigated and continuously improving project management processes.
  • Identifying and mitigating potential risks associated with design and construction phases.
  • Dealing with RFIs, early warnings and communications to reduce project risk.
  • Ensuring safety leadership, driving safety performance and CDM compliance.
  • Ensuring all activities are conducted safely and environmentally responsibly.
  • Defining project scope, goals, and deliverables with client and stakeholders.
  • Collaborating with planners to develop detailed project plans.
  • Overseeing project execution and monitoring progress.
  • Driving innovative design and construction solutions and integrating new technologies.
Qualifications
  • A degree in a relevant engineering or management discipline.
  • Chartered membership of a relevant professional body, or nearing completion of this status.
  • APM / MSP / PMI / PRINCE2 / Six Sigma certifications.
  • Working experience managing NEC3/4 contracts.
  • Experience in project management including technical, project controls.
  • Experience delivering significant client‑side projects (design and build).
  • Experience with Transport for Wales, Network Rail or similar rail entities.
  • Proven ability to manage successful work streams within a multi‑disciplinary delivery team.
  • Solution‑focused, curious and responsive to client issues.
