Job Description & How to Apply Below

Help keep two of South East Wales’s most treasured places safe, sustainable and ready to welcome everyone.

As Facilities Manager for Dyffryn Gardens and Tredegar House, you’ll lead the teams that keep these historic properties running smoothly while supporting vital conservation and improvement projects.

What it's like to work here

Tredegar House is one of Wales’s most significant 17th-century houses, set within 90 acres of gardens and parkland at the heart of Newport.

Dyffryn Gardens, on the outskirts of Cardiff, is home to 55 acres of Grade I listed gardens and currently undergoing various conservation projects.

Reporting to the Visitor Operations Manager, you’ll assist with conservation and visitor experience projects taking place across both properties and lead our experienced Facilities teams made up of friendly and ambitious staff and volunteers.

What you'll be doing

You’ll lead an efficient and flexible facilities service across both properties, keeping our buildings, assets and visitor spaces safe, welcoming and well maintained.

This includes overseeing planned, preventative and reactive maintenance, managing contractors and budgets, and project-managing works across the sites. The role also supports major visitor programmes, including our summer and Christmas offers.

With responsibility for environmental management, you’ll help care for these places in line with our conservation principles and find practical ways to improve sustainability.

The role includes Duty Management, with some weekend and evening working. Regular travel between both properties and moving vehicles on site will also be required.

Who we're looking for

We’d love to hear from you if you:

  • have experience of managing or supervising a facilities function
  • can demonstrate a strong commitment to maintaining buildings, outdoor spaces and other assets to a high standard
  • are able to build effective relationships with contractors, colleagues and other stakeholders
  • have strong attention to detail, particularly around health and safety and compliance
  • have a good understanding of environmental and climate-related initiatives
  • can manage significant maintenance budgets and keep projects running smoothly
  • are comfortable acting as a key holder and responding to occasional out-of-hours emergencies
  • hold a full UK driving licence, as you’ll travel between properties and move vehicles on site.

We're proud of the role the Welsh language plays in the places and communities we care for across Wales.

Whether you're a fluent Welsh speaker, a learner, or completely new to the language, we'll support you to develop the skills and confidence needed for your role and to engage with Welsh language and culture as part of working at the National Trust.
