CNC Machinist
Are you an experienced CNC Setter/Operator who takes pride in precision, craftsmanship and doing things properly? Do you want a role where your skill is valued, your input matters, and you're trusted to work on complex, low-volume components rather than repetitive production?
Moxie People are partnering with a growing precision engineering business in Cardiff to recruit an experienced CNC Setter/Operator who can bring strong setting, machining and problem‑solving capability to a modern, high-quality workshop.
What's in it for you?
- Salary negotiable depending on experience
- Work on prototype, small-batch and technical machining - not production line work
- Brand new, clean, modern workshop with high-end Doosan and Quaser equipment
- Exposure to 3-axis, 4-axis and 5-axis machining
- Progression into advanced CNC setting, programme editing and multi‑axis work
- Supportive, owner‑led environment where your experience is respected
- Opportunity to develop CAD/CAM and offline programming skills over time
- Real autonomy - you'll be trusted to set, adjust, inspect and solve problems
About the Role
You'll be joining a small, highly skilled team producing precision components for a range of technical applications. You'll be trusted with real machining responsibility - not just loading parts and pressing cycle start.
You'll work across milling, turning and 5‑axis machining, with the chance to grow into more advanced work as you develop.
Your day-to-day will include:
- Setting and operating CNC machines:
- Doosan Lynx 2100
LSYB CNC lathe - Doosan DNM 4500 machining centre
- Quaser MT400U 5‑axis machining centre
- Running and adjusting existing Fanuc programmes
- Tool changes, offsets, cutter compensation and first‑off checks
- Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and GD&T
- Using measurement tools (verniers, micrometers, gauges) for in-process inspection
- Identifying and resolving machining issues (tool wear, chatter, tolerance drift)
- Maintaining a clean, organised and safe machine area
- Supporting continuous improvement and ISO 9001 quality processes
What We're Looking For
- Solid experience as a CNC Setter/Operator (milling and/or turning)
- Strong understanding of Fanuc controls
- Confident adjusting offsets, tooling and cutter compensation
- Comfortable working to tight tolerances on precision components
- Good knowledge of tooling, feeds/speeds and machining strategy
- Strong inspection skills (CMM experience is a bonus)
- Someone who enjoys problem‑solving and improving machining processes
- A reliable, steady machinist who takes pride in producing high‑quality work
- Interest in developing programming skills and multi‑axis capability
If you've worked in prototype, low-volume or technical machining environments - even better.
