This influential leadership role is responsible for leading the Planning, Corporate Narrative, Public Affairs and Insight portfolio, helping to ensure communications activity is coordinated, evidence‑led and aligned with organisational priorities. Working closely with the Deputy Head of Communications and senior leaders across the organisation, you will play a key role in shaping and delivering integrated communications plans that support Public Health Wales’ strategic objectives.

You will lead the development and delivery of communications planning frameworks, corporate narrative approaches, support with public affairs and insight and evaluation systems.

You will work with a wide range of stakeholders, providing strategic communications support, identifying reputational risks and opportunities, and contributing to policy advocacy and stakeholder engagement activity.

We are looking for someone with highly specialist communications knowledge, gained through significant experience and study to master's level equivalent or through substantial professional expertise. You will have a proven track record of leading integrated communications activity across multiple priorities, managing stakeholder relationships, influencing senior leaders and using insight and evaluation to inform strategic decision‑making. Strong planning, leadership, analytical and relationship‑management skills are essential.

Main duties of the job

  • Lead the development and delivery of the Planning, Corporate Narrative, Public Affairs and Insight portfolio, contributing to the organisation's integrated communications plan under the direction of the Deputy Head of Communications
  • Lead the implementation of a clear, consistent corporate narrative that articulates who the organisation is, why it exists and what it does across all internal and external communications.
  • Lead the development, implementation and review of communications strategies and frameworks within the portfolio area, contributing to wider organisational communications priorities
  • Embed insight, evaluation and reporting into communications activity to demonstrate impact, support continuous improvement and enable effective decision‑making.
