Position: Trustees-Help People Seeking Sanctuary - Volunteer

Join Home4U Cardiff as a trustee and help a small, grassroots charity support people seeking sanctuary. This hands-on role gives you the chance to shape strategy, get involved in projects, and make a real difference in people’s lives.

What difference will you make?

This role will make a real and visible difference to Home4U Cardiff. As a small, hands‑on charity, the involvement of trustees directly shapes how well we operate and how effectively we support people seeking sanctuary.

A new trustee will help strengthen our decision-making, bring fresh thinking, and help turn plans into practical action. Their involvement will support the Charity Manager and board to stay focused, confident, and forward-looking as we respond to growing need and ongoing challenges.

By being actively involved, the trustee will help us run the charity in a person‑centred way. This means keeping the people we support at the heart of decisions, listening to lived experience, and making sure our work is shaped by real needs rather than assumptions.

Strong governance, clear direction, and hands‑on trustee involvement help ensure the charity remains stable, values‑led, and able to provide safe accommodation and consistent support. Ultimately, the impact of this role is felt by the people we support, who are treated with dignity, care, and respect.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for someone who shares our values and wants to make a real difference for people seeking sanctuary. The most important thing is a genuine commitment to dignity, fairness, and treating people as individuals.

Our ideal trustee will be practical, thoughtful, and happy to get involved. This is a role for someone who is comfortable working with a small charity, where ideas often turn into action quickly and trustees play an active part in moving things forward.

Useful experience might include working in or with charities, community organisations, housing, fundraising, finance, governance, or service development. Lived experience, or close connection to the issues faced by people seeking sanctuary, is equally valued.

We value people who can think clearly, ask good questions, and offer constructive challenge while remaining supportive. The ability to work well with others, listen to different perspectives, and contribute to shared decisions is essential.

Above all, we are looking for someone who is approachable, reliable, and willing to roll up their sleeves and support the charity as it grows and develops.

What will you be doing?

Home4U Cardiff is a small, hands‑on charity with an active and committed board. Trustees work closely with the Charity Manager and staff team, staying connected to what is happening day to day. We are a grassroots organisation, and our board plays a real part in shaping our work and supporting the people we serve.

Our current focus is on strengthening the charity and planning for the future while demand for our support continues to grow. We want to do this in a way that is realistic, sustainable, and true to our person‑centred values. Some of our key challenges are balancing limited capacity with growing need, developing our services carefully, and making sure the charity remains well run and resilient.

We are looking for a trustee who is happy to be actively involved and work alongside us as part of a small, supportive team. This is not a hands‑off role. Trustees will help shape our direction, support priority areas of work, and help turn ideas into practical action. Trustees are expected to roll up their sleeves and get involved in working groups, small projects, or areas of focus as needed.

Depending on their interests and experience, the trustee may take a lead role in an area such as fundraising, housing, governance, or strategic development, and help move this work forward.

This is an important time for Home4U. Joining the board now gives a trustee the chance to make a real and visible difference, supporting people seeking sanctuary with dignity, care, and respect.
