DescriptionWith over 30 years’ experience, CHAS is a trusted health and safety certification specialist for construction and the public sector. Founded by Merton Council, we help contractors pre‑qualify for projects and give clients access to compliant contractors. We set the standard for excellence through audits aligned with major legislation and recognised standards.
We are looking for a skilled Health, Safety Auditor to ensure contractors meet nationally recognised legal and compliance standards, delivering high‑quality desk‑based and on‑site audits and providing professional guidance while maintaining audit integrity.
What that means day to day- Deliver high‑quality audits: conduct detailed desk‑based audits of contractors’ Health & Safety, Quality, and Environmental (HSQE) management systems, policies, and procedures, ensuring alignment with national legislation and industry standards.
- Maintain audit integrity: apply professional judgement to assess documentation, ensuring accuracy, consistency and fairness.
- Support contractor success: engage proactively, provide constructive feedback and guide toward compliance.
- Work to targets: meet defined KPIs and productivity targets while maintaining quality.
- Stakeholder engagement: liaise with stakeholders from large corporates to SMEs, offering expert advice.
- Conduct on‑site audits: travel to contractor offices or client sites as required.
- Contribute to assessment standards: shape technical content of the scheme, advise on legal requirements and recommend updates.
- Improve internal practices: share best practices and support continuous improvement initiatives.
- NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent)
- Membership of a relevant professional body (TechIOSH or above)
- At least 2 years’ UK Health & Safety experience, ideally in construction or supply chain sector
- Hands‑on practical experience with CDM regulations is desired
- Sound knowledge of H&S, environmental legislation, and ISO auditing standards
- Familiarity with procurement processes and risk in supply chain management
- Experience in quality assurance or auditing
- Strong communication skills – written, verbal, presentation
- Ability to challenge, influence and support professionals at all levels
- High attention to detail and data accuracy
- Analytical and confident in drawing valid conclusions from complex information
- Capable of managing a varied workload and meeting deadlines
- Comfortable working in a target/KPI‑driven environment
- Collaborative mindset and commitment to high‑quality customer service
