The Centre for Trials Research at Cardiff University is a large, multinational community of researchers, professional services staff and students from a diverse range of backgrounds. Role OverviewAs a Research Assistant (Data Manager) you will work within the Data Management function of the Centre for Trials Research (CTR). You will be responsible for all data management tasks within your assigned trial(s) and must be able to clearly communicate with different groups, work to tight deadlines and follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). You will have a proven ability to carry out your day‑to‑day activities independently and have experience planning your own workload.
Responsibilities- Take ownership of data decisions in key trial documents such as trial protocol and Data Management Plan during trial set‑up.
- Collaborate with the trial team on the design of data collection methods and database specifications.
- Test the trial database rigorously in line with SOPs and incorporate data‑capture, handling and storage methods into the DMP.
- Implement the DMP during recruitment and follow‑up, ensuring a clean and complete dataset by monitoring completeness, accuracy, consistency and validity of trial data.
- Coordinate with site staff and central study teams to resolve data queries and produce and present study status reports to deadline.
- Maintain all Data Management files and documentation appropriately.
- Contribute to Data Management initiatives, process discussions and drive your own methodological research output by joining CTR/DM research groups and contributing to trial publications.
- Experience working across multi‑disciplinary teams.
- Working knowledge of regulations including Good Clinical Practice and the General Data Protection Regulation and how they apply to a Data Manager’s work.
- Knowledge and experience designing data‑collection methods, preferably within a regulated setting.
- Prior experience using databases in Clinical Trials (e.g. REDCap, MACRO, SQL Server) preferable.
- High level of numeracy and ability to integrate and interpret data.
Employment type: Full‑time (35 hours per week), fixed‑term, available from 1 September 2026 for 12 months; may be extended or converted to open‑ended.
Blended working basis: Eligible to be offered a flexible arrangement where you can work on campus or from another location such as home.
Salary: £33,951 - £36,636 per annum (Grade
5).
