Research Assistant PSYCH

To contribute to an innovative project focused on improving children’s experiences of healthcare through playful communication. Based in the Cardiff University Centre for Human Developmental Science, the successful candidate will work alongside researchers, clinical psychologists, charities, healthcare professionals, and young people to translate developmental science research into real-world impact.

This role offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of developmental psychology, clinical psychology, healthcare improvement, and public involvement and engagement. The successful candidate will help co-produce resources for healthcare staff, support the development of training and communication materials, co-ordinate stakeholder engagement activities, and evaluate the impact of project outputs.

The role would particularly suit someone considering a future career in clinical psychology, health services research, patient and public involvement and engagement (PPIE), research impact, or healthcare innovation. We are looking for a creative, organised, and proactive individual who enjoys working independently, building relationships with stakeholders, and transforming research into meaningful change.

We particularly welcome applications from MSc/PhD/DClinPsy students, and those with prior experience working in NHS settings.

• To undertake project activities, for example, by planning, coordinating and recording the outcomes of impact, stakeholder engagement, co-production, and evaluation activities
• To work collaboratively with children and young people, NHS staff, charitable organisations and academic colleagues to translate developmental science research into practical resources that improve children’s experiences of healthcare
• Actively participate within the research group, communicating project activities and outcomes at meetings and through other appropriate channels, ensuring information is effectively communicated to internal and external partners
• To contribute to the development and dissemination of project outputs, including digital resources, guidance documents, presentations, and other impact-focused materials as required
• To analyse and communicate complex ideas, concepts and data using appropriate methods and packages
• To resolve issues and support colleagues in devising procedures required to ensure accurate and timely project delivery and reporting
• To contribute independent and original ideas to the development of project outputs.
• To maintain and update specialist knowledge, researching and critically appraising relevant literature in research impact, public involvement and engagement, developmental science and paediatric healthcare

• To participate in School administration and activities to promote the School and its work to the wider University and the outside world
• To undergo personal and professional development that is appropriate to and which will enhance performance
• To ensure that an understanding of the importance of confidentiality is applied when undertaking all duties
