The Discovery is looking for a driven, hands-on Sous Chef to join the kitchen team at one of Cardiff’s best-loved community pubs. We serve a classic, comforting menu built around Welsh products, from proper breakfasts to hearty lunches, pub favourites and standout Sunday roasts. With a sports bar, dining room and relaxed pub lounge, we’re a busy venue with a loyal local following and a real neighbourhood feel.
What'sthe Role?
As Sous Chef, you will work closely with the Head Chef to oversee the daily kitchen operation. You will help supervise the team, coordinate food service and maintain consistently high standards in a busy, fast-paced environment.
- Supporting the Head Chef with the smooth running of the kitchen
- Helping lead and motivate the kitchen team during busy services
- Demonstrating and promoting teamwork within the kitchen
- Preparing and delivering high-quality food across breakfasts, lunches, pub favourites and Sunday roasts
- Being committed to delivering first-class service and consistent food quality
- Maintaining strong operational skills and the ability to work calmly under pressure
- Adhering to health and safety, food hygiene and COSHH procedures at all times
- Supporting stock control, kitchen organisation and food preparation standards
- Training and supporting new members of the kitchen team
Major events and weekends are a must — this is when the magic happens!
What We're Looking For- Previous experience as a Sous Chef, Senior Chef or experienced Chef de Partie
- Confidence working in a busy pub, restaurant or high-volume kitchen
- Good operational skills and a strong understanding of kitchen procedures
- A positive, hands-on approach and the ability to lead by example
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Good knowledge of food safety, health and safety and COSHH procedures
- Confidence training, supporting and developing new kitchen team members
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, public holidays and major events
