Our Customer Payroll team plays a crucial role in delivering accurate and timely payments that directly support customer wellbeing. We’re looking for a Payroll Operations Subject Matter Expert to bring technical payroll expertise, strong analytical skills and a collaborative mindset to our high‑performing team. What you’ll be doing
  • Providing expert technical support across payroll processing, reporting and operational controls
  • Leading on complex payroll queries, investigations and escalations
  • Supporting system process and control improvements, including testing and documentation updates
  • Conducting quality checks and monitoring activity to ensure accuracy and risk alignment
  • Ensuring regulatory, legislative and internal process requirements are understood and applied
  • Identifying and recommending opportunities for continuous improvement across teams
  • Supporting colleagues with consistent training guidance and technical knowledge
  • Contributing SME insight to projects, audits, initiatives and wider business engagement
Qualifications
  • Strong experience in pension payroll environments, ideally with 10,000 volume processing
  • Solid understanding of payroll processes, reconciliations, exceptions management and variance analysis
  • Confidence in analysing and interpreting financial and technical payroll data
  • Ability to engage, influence and collaborate with colleagues across different teams
  • Strong awareness of payroll regulation, risk and controls
  • Ability to apply sound judgement and problem‑solving in complex scenarios
  • Commitment to delivering fair customer outcomes and embedding Conduct Risk principles
  • Adaptability, initiative and a positive approach to change and continuous improvement
